Media Guidelines

The Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) strives to be transparent with the help of its media relations staff to facilitate the citizens right to be fully informed about the activities of the Airport.  Although many or the Airport’s operational areas are closed to the general public because of security, safety & operational concerns, the Airport makes allowances for the media to visit SBA facilities & properties when possible.

Airport Media Relations strives to accommodate media on SBA-owned & controlled property, with the following exceptions:

Where safety & operational conditions may subject media representatives to injury or harm. Airport management has the exclusive discretion to determine the hazards of the situation.

Where the physical presence of the media representatives hinders Airport operations, the operation of the Airport’s lessees, contractors, or in emergency situations, hinders Airport staff’s ability to resolve a crisis.

Where portions of the Airport property or facilities are leased to a private concern or if private property is on Airport property, for example, Southern California Edison or the airlines. In these cases, permission for media access rests with the lessee or private owner.

News media, commercial photography/filming requires a permit.
