Local Businesses Attended the December 10th Presentation.

The Santa Barbara Airport’s (SBA) new larger Airline Terminal is currently under construction with completion expected in early 2011.  The new Terminal will have additional space for multiple food & beverage and retail units for traveler convenience. Currently there are just two concessionaires in the existing 20,000 square foot Terminal due to space constraints; a national food and beverage company that operates a full-service restaurant and snack bar, and a local gift shop/newsstand retailer.

The second floor of the new 67,000 square foot Terminal will be the primary space for a variety of concessions.  This space is in the secured boarding gate area for ticketed passengers. Local businesses are encouraged to consider operating in this environment that will have an average of over 1,000 potential customers each day.

An informational meeting for prospective concessionaires was held on Thursday, December 10th from 10 a.m. to noon in the Airport Departments’ Administration Conference Room at 601 Firestone Road, Santa Barbara, 93117 (next to the Elephant Bar Restaurant off Hollister Ave. near Fairview Ave.).

The December 10th meeting provided useful information to interested retailers and restaurateurs in an effort to develop strong local participation in concession opportunities at SBA.  There was presentations by Karen Ramsdell, Airport Director, and Hazel Johns, Assistant Airport Director, as well as the Airport’s concession consultants, explaining the requirements for operating in a post security airport setting.  For more information about SBA concessions, please contact Hazel Johns, Assistant Airport Director, at 805.967.7111 or HJohns@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.

Santa Barbara Airport is a self-supporting enterprise owned and operated by the City of Santa Barbara, serving over 800,000 passengers annually.

A new Airline Terminal and associated improvements (planned completion – 2011) are underway with no interruptions to flights due to construction.
